Painless Grammar

First off, we have ¿Dónde?. This is the word we use most generally to ask for a location and translates as "Where?"

    ¿Dónde está el restaurante? - Where is the restaurant?
    ¿Dónde está la biblioteca? - Where is the library?

Then we have ¿De dónde?, which asks "from where?"
    ¿De dónde eres? - Where are you from?
    ¿De dónde es Gerardo? - Where is Gerardo from?
