The Italian Alphabet

The Italian alphabet consists of 21 letters: five vowels (A, E, I, O U) and 16 consonants. Listen to the names of the letters.

The letters J, K, W, X and Y are not part of the alphabet, and appear only in foreign loanwords (e.g., 'jeans, whiskey, etc.) and foreign names. Accents marks appear to slightly modify the vowels for pronunciation purposes.
